On Monday, March 4, 2024, the Politehnica University Library of Timișoara hosted the meeting announcing the results obtained within the University Students Engaging in Responsible and Sustainable Energy Consumption project carried out by the Politehnica Foundation Timisoara, in partnership with Quality Management Systems Norway (QMS).
On this occasion, the rector of Politehnica University Timisoara, assoc. prof. dr. eng. Florin Drăgan welcomed the efforts of the project team and reiterated his objective to make sustainability an important pillar of the university development strategy.
The student representative in the UPT Board of Directors, Paul Stiegelbauer, underlined his support for the efforts within the USE-REC project.
Finally, Erik Engh (QMS), partner in the project, presented his experiences, highlighting the significant cultural and professional contact facilitated by the project. In front of a large audience, consisting of students, dormitory administrators, staff engaged in student services and representatives of the UPT management, prof. dr. Mugur Dragomir presented the ways in which the project aimed to increase the knowledge of Timisoara students on responsible energy consumption, to develop energy-saving behaviors, respectively to reduce the carbon footprint in the life and activities of the on-campus students.
To assess the situation and create a data-based approach information and training sessions for students were organized, opinion polls were carried out, monitoring of utilities consumption and thermo-scanning of dormitories took place, etc. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adina Palea presented the online and offline campaigns run to determine the desired changes in student behaviors, to incorporate attitudes and actions oriented towards sparing resources and demonstrating awareness of the principles of sustainable development.
Prof. dr. Vasile Gherheș, project manager, and prof. dr. eng. Viorel-Aurel Serban, president of the Politehnica Foundation handed the diplomas of “Home – champion of responsible consumption” to the winners of the contest between dormitories.
The laureates are:
- Dorm 21C – for the category “responsible water consumption”
- Dorm 7C – for the category “responsible consumption of electricity”
- Dorm 1 MV – for the category “responsible consumption of thermal energy”.
- Dormitory 19C was designated “Champion of champions”, for demonstrating responsible consumption in all three categories. Student residents of this dorm receive, besides recognition, shopping vouchers offered by the partner of the contest, Profi Rom Food SRL.
